Fox and Martin Lawrence have teamed up to reprise the popular show “Martin” for 2015.

The original series ran for five years in the mid-90s and was one of the top rated show in the black television community. The show starred Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Thomas Mikal Ford, Tichina Arnold and Carl Anthony Payne II, who have all agreed to return to the 2015 remake – minus one familiar face.

Tisha Campbell-Martin will not reprise the role of Gina Waters, instead handing over the reigns to R&B singer Ashanti.

The decision could be in part due to a 1996 lawsuit against Lawrence in which Campbell-Martin accused him of sexually harassing her during the filming of the show. The case was settled shortly after and Campbell-Martin continued the final season of the show without shooting any scenes with Martin.

“Like many people, I grew up watching Martin and it was probably my favorite TV show ever,” Ashanti said about her reprising the legendary role. “I know it will be difficult for many people to see me as Gina, but I hope I bring a new dynamic to the role. I see it no differently than when Aunt Viv was replaced on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. At first the audience was not feeling the character change, but she eventually won them over. I am hoping I can do the same thing.”

The show is slated for released in 2015 on Fox.

:scusthov:

:whew: glad it's fake.

What happened to his Partners show?......already got cancelled that quick?...:wtf:
Ratings, much like the show, weren't good
 I knew that show gonna be failed...too bad but i kinda rooting for Martin..
On the real, if it was even marginally OK, it would've been picked up because people would've watched it but it was just so bad. Martin and Kelsey were great but everything around them, like the writing, failed the show

:heh: That show came & went. I forgot about it.

It can be done if it's good or at least finds an audience who embraces it breh. Big Bang Theory is still the highest rated comedy on TV and regardless of what everyone thinks of the quality, it works for a huge amount of people. There's gotta be something for everybody but it at least has to be done competently and that show wasn't competent

:shaq2: I meant to add "It only works for CBS (because of their audience)" at the end of my post. I doubt TBBT would be a hit & would've lasted this long if it had aired on another network other than CBS.

I've been saying it for a couple years on this forum, traditional multi-cam sitcoms are outdated af. There's a reason you don't see cable networks & SVOD services ordering them. Even the other 3 broadcast networks only seem to order 1 traditional multi-cam sitcom every year (that they end up not promoting), while the other sitcoms they order are all modern single-cam sitcoms.

:mjlol: ABC airs their multi-cam sitcoms on Friday nights before "Shark Tank". They know they can't air that shyt on Tuesday or Wednesday nights with their other sitcoms. TBS,TV Land, & ABC Family are the only cable networks producing multi-cam sitcoms AND those shows are completely irrelevant.

I don't know breh. I think the reason Big Bang would work anywhere is because people like the characters and love watching them. It's not about presentation as much as its about allowing the audience to get to know your characters and then it becomes appointment viewing. It kills on tbs too so it's not just the cbs thing it has going for it. A lot of single cam shows and other multi cam shows have terrible characters or just don't allow anyone to get to know them on any level. A show like hot in Cleveland may be irrelevant to us but clearly it isn't to a specific audience and demo. Big bang reaches across demos and audiences. I'm not a huge advocate of the show but I do recognize the penchant for character and that's how you get hit shows.
