I think this should be a sign that his next album doesn't have to sound pop to be a success. Now that he has more fans, he can go a different route. The Hills is a typical hob and eos track. Alot of those tracks would be hits now if they were new and him being as huge now.

Exactly. If it was just cant feel my face and the hills flopped you could say well,his next album defiinitely only pop next. But the hills blew up bigger than cant feel my face did and its got the same atmospheric production and nihilistic misogynistic lyrics of his old stuff. Max martin definitely sparked his mainstream exposure but now hes shone a huge light on him and he has the talent to do it all himself from now on.
