Chavez died in 2013 with high inflation yes but comparable to Argentina’s right now .. Venezuela inflation today is on another level
Yes and the article I posted was during is reign.
And yes inflation is worse now but there are reasons for that.
Firstly Chavez was borrowing money from China and spent all of it on the people leaving nothing for the next leader.
And now Maduro is left with it all, plus he has decided to ban any Venezuelan loans from the IMF and top it off there is sanctions that countries including Canada and America have put on the country.
It's oil production has decreased as well.

Again I am not defending Maduro but it seems most people here with an opinion have no understanding of the history of this country, which is fine but then be self-aware of that and don't be so opinionated.

with that said though, of course it is important to note that Chavez was a much better leader than Maduro and had skills to run the country much better.
But even with that still both were corrupt, but before you judge them because they are corrupt don't forget America is also corrupt.

If anyone wants to understand the situation a little more this is an excellent read:

As Mark Weisbrot, director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, noted, ignoring the US intervention in Venezuela is like reporting on Ukraine without mentioning Russia.

They have oil. They got on the West’s bad side when they tried to up their cut of their own oil. That’s when Bush tried the coup to depose Chavez, but gotboutsmarted.

How an oil rich country got like this is suspicious. I wonder if the reserve oil price fukked them. :ohhh:

They will eventually abandon the currency and use the USD or some other currency. The looped off zeros will take about a few weeks to be reinflated. In Zimbabwe by 2006 the state wasn't in control of fiscal policy, the central bank was just printing out wads of currency and exchanging them for US dollars on the black market. When i graduated i owed the Government like a million Zimbabwe dollars but 6 months after graduating the same amount was like the cost of a kilo of beef. I also worked retail for a bit before i left and we would arbitrarily raise prices 2 to 3 times just to keep pace with inflation
