’60 Days In’ is really just ‘The Real World’ – 7 strangers, 1 (big) house
A&E’s newest prison-based docu-series “60 Days In” puts seven everyday people in an unpredictable adventure, much like MTV’s long-running reality series “The Real World.” The latter’s intro teases viewers to “find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real” — and it occurs more than ever when the randomly picked civilians spend two months behind bars undercover.
Interestingly enough, each cast member shows similar traits in both scenarios. There is Mr.
Popular
, the complete weirdo, the hothead, the mediator, the follower, the one that everyone makes fun of and the dull introvert.
See how the strangers from MTV’s past “Real World” seasons compare with this seasons participants in A&E’s “60 Days In” below:
Mr. Popular
Mr. Popular is running the show. Everyone acknowledges him, and he’s got friends galore. Zac automatically fit in with the inmates when he went into the program. The same goes for
Johnny Bananas, who has been the cool guy in school for his season of “The Real World” and every challenge competition he’s done on MTV.
The Hot Head
This person is easily triggered when it comes to pretty much anything. The smallest things annoy them to the point of being involved into a physical altercation. The rule of all Hot Heads is that they are always isolated from the group.
CT doesn’t have any true friends and Tami identifies herself a a lone wolf.
The Complete Lunatic
Ty of “The Real World: DC” goes down in history as one of the worst MTV contestants in the history of the franchise. Everyone wanted to punch him in the face, and an inmate stated that he wanted to do that exact thing to Robert. These types of reality stars glide around with an air of arrogance, which make them extremely unlikable.
The Follower
Going with the flow is second nature to this person in social settings.
Barbra decides to fit in with the rest of the girls in F-Pod, even if it means getting out of her comfort zone. MTV vet Paula is the same way. They make the best of their time by following the leaders.
The Punching Bag
When “The Real World” returned to Las Vegas, it introduced the incredibly square
Michael. He is probably the opposite of Mr. Popular. Jeff is definitely the unpopular one in his pod. This person has little to no respect when placed in a social setting and is often being taken advantage of my his supposed “friends.”
The Extremely Dull One
Isaiah and all of “The Real World: St. Thomas” can be put into this category of being incredibly dull. This person is basically absent during the entire journey. Isaiah hasn’t made an effort to make any friends here, while “The Real World: St. Thomas” cast is not memorable in the least.
The Mediator
Maryum is the happy go lucky person who most of the people in her pod get along with. She calms the women down from “beating the brakes” of the other women and helps them plan out their life after prison. As for LeRoy of “The Real World: Las Vegas” and “The Challenge,” what’s not to love? No one has a problem with them because they have been a friend to everyone.
I highly disagree that Maryum is holding a candle to Leroy's greatness
