AirBnB completely inflated the market for people trying to actually live in NYC. If you could get a lease in NYC you could retain a "rental management company" that would pay you $2k over the lease to rent it out. So the landlords just raised rent accordingly.

NYC shuttered 80% of its Airbnbs in an attempt to make housing more affordable. All that's done so far is make hotels more expensive.

The neighborhoods these hotels are in aren’t Beverly Hills, but no one will press you. Random ass violence isn’t that much of a thing here. See what the prices are at Opera House in the Bronx.
