DC had the bikes and the hood stole most of those:mjlol:
Most of the bike companies just up and left earlier this year leaving the bikes for anyone who wanted them, I still see them around locked up on bike racks
The companies that survived like Limebike switched to scooters and they are very handy getting around DC
even Lyft has their own version of the Bird scooter which you can buy on Amazon for about $500
I like Limebike's scooters more than the Bird/Lyft scooter, they are bigger and sturdier
but the mayor just put more requirements on them like max speed of 10 mph and the scooter companies hate it
I've received emails from all of them telling me to talk to the mayor about relaxing her new rules

Seen one in the Anacostia Metro Station (my green line nikkas know what’s up). I have no idea how they got it down there :yeshrug:.

I hate them though.

Can someone explain to me how this work?

I see dozens of them bytches everywhere in Detroit

Like how is money being made
I believe the companies pay the city to allow them to drop their fleet of scooters on the city
The scooters all have GPS and only can be unlocked when you scan the QR code via an app on your phone
You open an account though the app and link a credit card
The app shows you a map of available scooters in your area
Once you find one you scan the QR code on the scooter
The app unlocks the scooter via satellite and starts to charge you based on how long you use the scooter
I think its ~$1 per 15 minutes for most of them
once you are done, you end your ride via the app and the scooter is locked
You can actually make money charging these scooters if you have a big enough place to store them overnight:ehh:

Vice conviently left out the problem the problem they address which is reducing on the road traffic.
They don’t. No one who uses their car to commute or run errands has stopped simply because “gee, i can now use a scooter to/from the nearest transit stop :ohhh:, lemme start taking the bus to work!” :heh:

These bike shares were solving last mile, adding yet another mode of transport, that targeted people who were too lazy to put effort into biking, that can be so easily abused (kids riding them, riding on sidewalks, ignoring stop signs and signals) without working with cities first was some arrogant wypipo shyt.

These scooters are being tossed about everywhere, it’s as if they forgot the dynamics of city living.

See where I'm at they only ride them on the sidewalks. it's crazy how I'm reading some places allow them on the road. That sounds even more problematic and dangerous
We have bike lanes galore out here, they should be used in the bike lanes, not the street and not the sidewalks

As a person in the tech industry, the other thing annoying about these companies is that there are so many of them and they all seemed to pop up overnight - bird, lime, spin, wind, jump, etc. one, with all them competing with literally the same offering, you get way more scooters dumped in cities than necessary, then the stupid high valuations they attach to these companies are laughable. All of them will be consolidated into bird and lime and jump and then fully rolled int lyft or uber

I love those scooters and rideshare bikes. I work two jobs that are close by, so I'll hop on one of them without having to move my car
People don’t realize how handy they are until they need one lol. I’m a walker so they definitely come in handy if I need one to get back to my car quicker or something. I think you know Charlotte so I’ll put it like this... I have no problem parking my car in the Target or Trader Joe’s Parking lot on the metropolitan area(free parking) and walking to Bearden Park. I did that shyt before the scooters and had to walk too and from.. I now will either choose the scooter or walk back. I’m cheap AF and would rather walk far than pay ridiculous amounts of money to park close.. Of course I’ll pay the parking if it’s cheaper.
