no trolling. i actually was also looking forward to watching the movie given the hype. i was disgusted after watching it. thought it was absolute garbage.
My favorite movie of the past 20 years.
Plainview is the personification of American Manifest Destiny. He takes what wants w/ no remorse.
IMO, Eli is too, but he's the inverse, a con-man version of Plainview. He tricks people into giving him what he wants by manipulating their guilt.

Yep both had their reasons. Mostly personal satisfaction. Eli tried to play the game, he just sold people on their beliefs and guilt. Plainview sold em on dreams

wow, I'm sorry I do not understand the hype. I thought it was awful. Slow, tedious, and confusing.

felt the same way first time I watched it. shyt gets better and better every time I've rewatched it and now I really like it.
