My great grandparents on both side were a sharecroppers in MS at the turn of the century.

Both sides of my family moved to the north in the 50's during the great migration. My mothers side eventually owned their land and it was still in the family until 8 years ago. My grandmother and all her sisters moved up north but kept their land rights. They reached out to me when they decided to sell it because my mother and grandmother had passed, but I never saw any money from the sale, but never pressed it.

My fathers side still had members living on the land they farmed up until the early 80's but only ever got deeds for the actual land where the houses were. They had access to the rest of the land but hadn't farmed since most of the family went north in 56'-58'
