it's just black people being tortured for no reason
there's a scene where a group of white people put a black baby in a pillowcase and throw it around while they're raping his mom
there's no pay off at the end
WOOOOOAAAAAHHHHH WTF?!?!?!?!

Is it trash? After Lovecraft country im staying away from this genre
It is high level trash. Trust me- don’t give it a watch I’m an avid horror movie purveyor so I know what I’m talking about, I love black horror in cinema but this was deeply depraved!!!The whites banned me from the thread and reported me in The Film Room thread bc I spoke on how much the movie/series is nothing but racist trauma torture porn against black people but of course, it made them uncomfortable or they get off on it. They let the white poster make sexual innuendos to me and yet I was the one who they removed from the thread when all I was doing was posting actual feedback from Twitter and various media sources. . But don’t let me interrupt this thread - just wanted to warn you about this movie since you asked the question. This movie gives off a very sinister affect your psyche type vibe - not good for the soul. The Ancestors are not pleased.

(@hex Not trying to start any shyt or stir ish up to be petty but could you please let me know why I was banned from the thread above? ^^I’m not understanding why I was blocked? Thank you - as a black woman why was my voice silenced in a movie about race issues that affected me??” )

Anyway -
Keep in mind that I posted this two weeks prior to the movie being released because the black horror film community was negatively reacting to it, for a very valid reason. They were right-
Idk about this. This might be a no for me. I just finished watching the Billie Holiday movie on Hulu. Terrible- I’m getting really drained from every movie that’s made being scripted into “trauma and trial” - so disrespectful to her legacy, when she was way more multifaceted than that. Getting abused wasn’t the sum total of her life with the “violent black man” narrative to follow. They made more out of her inner conflict than they needed to -instead of an appreciation for her contributions. We get 10 mins of running time about “strange fruit”, (her dedication to black causes) and 1 hr 35 mins worth of her being sexually abused and fighting like a Domestic violence PSA. Same with Antebellum. Legacies of black people and conflicts reduced to a horror movie - I’m not letting that programming control my psyche. Not sure if y’all notice the pattern - Antebellum, American Horror Story - Coven, The Soul Collector, Lovecraft series - watching trauma shouldn’t be classified as “horror made for tv entertainment”. These were people’s lives, conflicts, and struggles; not a sound byte. It’s getting disturbing - trauma violence, dysfunction “porn” to satisfy the bloodlust of white audiences and profit for promotion. Legacies and legends disrespectfully reduced to a horror movie script for thrills and chills- Nope, it’s getting to be too much.

if you need more reference
-The programming as predicted- I refuse to watch another episode of this. Been called it- another horrorsploitation movie profiting off the souls of black trauma. Read a spoiler for episode 5 - they went too far, f this. Glad I deaded watching this halfway through episode 2.
*HEAVY SPOILER
Did Them: Covenant just cross a line with *that* death scene?

- The same people always talking the “slavery was over 400 years ago” why can’t Black people get over it; are the same segment that seem to have no problem making profits of $400 million off black trauma marketing this as a horror movie. But if this was a “Nat Turner” flip the plot and show the Episode 5 graphic scene with a white family - wouldn’t have made it past the writer’s room. Nope- I’m standing on principle with this.

The English actor and musician, who performs under the name Bashy- (husband). Deborah Ayorinde was born in London, England- (wife). The new Amazon Prime Video limited anthology series Them, executive produced by Lena Waithe.
————
Her film bestie Cynthia Erivo also from the UK played both the Harriet and Aretha Franklin roles in the Hulu/Nat Geo movie - flop movies and yet they keep pursuing. Jodie Turner-Smith is a British model and actress, known for her work in Queen & Slim. That’s a pattern that’s becoming very culturally concerning - movie or not. I knew something was off

(Pardon the interruption fellas, I felt it was my duty to warn anyone attempting to watch this series.)
