My fiancee got me a Season One set (just announced Ultima Lucha on my watchthru), and I renewed my Sling TV, so we're almost caught up and ready for Season Two.
I'm glad you gave Dario props. Even when he would heel it up fantastically, it was hard to truly hate him, because the character is entertaining and makes sense.
I know Robert Rodriguez didn't direct, but he clearly influenced the product. There have already been directing nods to El Mariachi, Grindhouse, and Machete...and some of the shots are simply breathtaking.
And Vampiro is gold on commentary. Him and Striker have a great rapport, and it's clear in his voice that he genuinely loves the product he is selling.

Striker is the worst commentator in the business.
I'd rather listen to 3 hours of Michael Cole on cough syrup then 5 minutes of Matt Striker.
Striker is far from awful. The only knock against him is that his references can be corny. He shows plenty of enthusiasm and knows a lot about the business.
okay yeah I just watched the first episode. Wanted to do one of my play by play live reaction type posts, but I didn't wanna spoil it for anybody.
it's very refreshing, the way it knows it's a wrestling show. The fact that the production standards of the backstage story segments make it FEEL like a legit show actually makes you more into it.
It's like.... anti-kayfabe. You enjoy the fake "real" show the same way you enjoy any other fake "real" TV show or movie, because it feels like a tv show...
and not a "fake" real wrestling program where you know it's fake, but they're trying to convince you it's real, despite the fact it hasn't been real it stopped being real to whomever, dammit.
It's a wrestling TV show. Not a wrestling program or a TV show about wrestling.
Does that make sense?
Anyway, yeah. VERY much enjoyed the commentary. The professionalism of Striker (whom I swear cats only claim is "bad" because some internet folks claimed he was) matched with the real and casual ghetto street sounding Vampiro.

Word. Striker might be the definition of a mark but he's toned down a lot since his WWE days (or at least gotten more self aware) and the man has such a wide arrange of wrestling knowledge that he is the absolute best at play-by-play.
