I still remember being in the Velvet Room in Buckhead when the Quiet Storm Remix dropped and was burning up AOL and IRC.

When the DJ dropped it everyone booed and stopped dancing until he dropped some non sensicle southern trash instead.

Which areas specifically? I was more speaking of dc and maryland with my comment. Culturally we fit in with the northeast and no one around here talks with a southern drawl. To put things in perspective east coast rap dominated our local stations during the 90s

Even lived in philly for two summers in 2000 and 2001 and it honestly felt like a bigger version of baltimore. Buildings, streets, and rowhomes all looked the same and the night life had the same vibe. Main difference is philly brehs had a penchant for tapered guess jeans during that time

NOVA/DC is southern to me....doesn't mean country....DC nikkas are like taking nikkas from rural TN and putting them in an urban environment lol....I don't know about southern drawl but DC reminds me of ATL overall...just more compact (despite ATL having small city limits too)...I've lived in both 8+ years.....I'm in PG County now and these dudes ain't really northern to me compared to Philly or NYC...MD is definitely a mixture of south and north...I can see Bmore being considered a northern city

Interesting. Growing up in the baltimore area I only ever saw the regional situation through my eyes and experiences. No one around here will ever try to claim the south. Our winters are too damn cold to even front like that

Coming down 95 the South doesn't really start until you leave Woodbridge, VA. And even Southeast VA down to North Carolina played mostly East Coast hip hop in the 90's on the radio.

I just laugh at the South trying hard to hate on this 19 year old artist trying to make it in the game . Mad that a nikka from NY got a #1 hit using their style. From Jermaine Dupri, to Lil Duval, etc etc, saying he's copying Future's style and looking like a buffoon

As a NY breh, this makes this so much more enjoyable


Cause this is EXACTLY what we were annoyed of when the shytty South music started to dominate the Rap scene. With the shytty ass music dominating the airwaves making people cringe. The same shyt people criticized Desiigner for, same shyt NY criticized the south for

- Weird mannerisms that looked forced
- Lowering the bar of lyricism with shytty lyrics
- Not separating this type of music with Real Hip Hop, thus diluting the genre
- Cosigning and promoting the shytty music to encourage more shyttyness to be made and promoted


Besides southern legends like Young Jeezy, TI, Luda, Scarface, Juvenille, Rick Ross, UGK, 8ball & MJG, OutKast, etc etc, like 60% of the hip hop from the south after 2005 was shytty, and stupidly cosigned



I barely even like the Panda song. But imma root for Desiigner. Just like most of ya'll Southern nikkas did with the shytty rappers from the South
