My cousin said I made it big and it's unusual
She tried to take a selfie at my grandma's funeral

Used to roam on Queen, now I sing Queen street anthems
Used to hate attention, now I pull up in that wagon
I was broken, I was broken, I was so broke
I used to roam around the town when I was homeless
Me and Lamar would rob a nikka for his Jordans
And flip it just to get these hoes another nose fix
Now we get faded, when we want girl, we got choices
Lay them on the fu*king table, we got choices
And if they wanna fu*k my nikkas, they got choices
They told me not to fall in love, that sh*t is pointless
Yeah, that sh*t is pointless
They told me not to fall in love, that sh*t is pointless
Yeah, that sh*t is pointless
It's only meant to fall in love
That sh*t is pointless

Read a RollingStone article on him that is still new and this part explains everything to me

When Kiss Land stalled, the Weeknd fell into a creative rut. "I just kept getting more and more depressed," he says. He considered relocating from Toronto to Seattle in search of a "super-drugged-out Nirvana vibe." Instead, after writing and scrapping an album's worth of material, he started spending more time in Los Angeles and listening to his label. Republic got him a choice placement on the 50 Shades of Greysoundtrack with "Earned It" and set up a duet with Ariana Grande on her club-ready single "Love Me Harder," produced by synth-pop wizard Max Martin. "At first I was kind of iffy about it," the Weeknd says of the collaboration, which would have been unthinkable in the old days. "Five years ago? Definitely not. I was the young starving artist that wanted to do it all by myself."

This is exactly what this album sounds to me: someone who sold his soul and sound to get a seat at the Pop Olympus. It's as if he decided to reboot his whole career mid-development and is now someone else. Sure, the dark themes and all that are still hidden here and there, but now they feel corny and unauthentic because of the mainstream pop sound they are being sung on. And I know it's cliche to shyt on an artist that is suddenly mainstream but man.. this is one disappointing album. :sadcam:

Wished The Weeknd would try to be The Weeknd and not MJ's reincarnation. :francis:

I've come to the conclusion that Kissland shyts all over this album.... King of the fukking Fall shyts all over this album

The only songs I can really fukk with is The Hills, ICFMF, Shameless, Tell Your Friends and Prisoner the rest is just hot garbage.

Kissland flowed so beautifully from Professional to the end no skips on the album (I like Live For)

Kissland had so many quotables on it this album is just a bunch of pop beats with the Weeknd singing 4 lines in each fukking song with the exception of some.
fukk even Love Me Harder was harder then this tape.

I'm still hoping (probably a reach) that the "-" beside Angel is the 2nd part to it because the album just feels like its missing something, feels empty. It feels like he was uninspired on it.

The anti simp gawd showed glimpses of who he actually is on this tape but thats it, it was just glimpses. Get this weed plate the fukk outta here

And this is coming from a fan that's been there since before anybody noticed his name was The Weeknd not the weekend
See I'm the opposite. I find Kiss land the worst outta all the albums n mixtape's. Sounded too forced and trying to hard to sound demonic. Didn't sound natural.

So far this album I got 4/5, 8.5/10. I understand wr never getting another Hob. But this album really does sound like a perfect blend of his real self with a touch of pop to get em album sales. But not completely selling out.

Like that guitar rift at the end of tell yourself, is soo smooth and helps paint that dark picture. But that's a sound weeknd never wldve fukked wit b4.

I got no complaints here, album is nice n Abel gonna win da Grammy and not even give a fukkin speech, I luv it

Yo im so tired of yall saying this

my nikka Abel be en grinding for years

YEARS

Dropped classic after classic for his fans

Now its his time to shine

its like poeple dont like artist when they gain popularity

he got an opportunity to become a huge star....

he spoke about nikkas like you in "Rolling Stone"

"I got you
Baby I got you
Until you're used to my face
And my mystery fades
I got you
So baby love me
Before they all love me
Until you won't love me
Because they all love me
I'll be different
I think I'll be different
I hope I'm not different
And I hope you'll still listen

But until then
Baby I got you
I got you
Girl I still got you
I got you"

this album is fire. shyt is one of the best projects out this year

his subject matter hasnt really changed that much

he just not being confined to one sound

This is what i thought when cant feel my face dropped. He went full michael, i thought Odd Look was the perfect balance of him and michael. But at least 3 songs on this album is full Michael.

Couldn't agree more breh, Odd Look is one of my top 5 Weeknd tracks.

I never understood some of the hate Kissland got. I thought it was an excellent album out side of maybe two or three tracks. Proffessional, The town, adapation, pretty, tears in the rain were all standout tracks. There's nothing like that on his latest album. 4 or 5 songs we've heard for a while and the rest leaves much to be desired. It was almost like it was rushed to cash in on his new popularity because of the Earned it song. Overall a very disappointing album. And there are plenty of people who thought kissland was wack plus this album is bad as well.

Even though he's still underground, I think JMSN has made much better music recently than the weeknd. Priscilla and the blue album are better than kissland & this...
