The way Nas bounces back is unreal.

Plus, the main reason why I like LIG is because Nas answered all the gossip and criticism. He fired back thru his music (which is what an artist is suppose to do). The whole "Nas Lost" gang got shots fired from him the entire album. And it's going right over their heads LOL. That's why it pays to be a skilled lyricist. Because you can say whatever you want and most folks don't catch it.

Even tho the pic is prolly photoshopped, I'm sure smbdy in nas camp seen it & that "now I'm the only black in the club, with rich yuppy kids.." line references it

I'll be honest, I don't understand the whole deep serious criticizing of Nas work. He had one album (Nastradamus) that was considered a disappointment. And even that album was better than most rappers best work. It's not like it didn't have some good songs on it. HHID, Streets Decisple and Untitled were good albums with some adjustments. Besides, why are those albums being brought up, when the focus should be on LIG? People compare too much from the past, instead of focusing on what's actually current.

He's Nas, since when did we start judging Nas according to what Soulja boy dropped that year? Besides that, the guy was responding to "what was he bouncing back from" statement. I disagree with his "no great albums since Stillmatic" statement though. I really enjoyed God's Son. To this date, I've never listened to Distant Relatives though...I just got a vibe that it would be some off the wall shyt that I couldn't rock with.

This is why I liked the album so much as well, he kinda did that too with HHID the metaphors and symbolism is so heavy.

But yea, Nas is the most heavily criticized rapper in history, it's like he can never top himself at this point so he just does him. Nas is in another stratosphere with his shyt so, I thin we always tend to look at him under a microscope.

Sometimes i think Nas making Illmatic was the worst thing for him. Now everytime he releases a new album people go back and compare and talk about how they don't stand up to Illmatic. For years people shytted on IWW until he couldn't be denied that he had made another classic after getting over the hate for the commercial tracks. That to me is and will always be Nas best album as far as balance between social gritty and crossover tracks. But then u have people unfairly shytting on HHID and Untitled. Which are both good to great albums. I remember when HHID dropped and everybody was talking bout Nas is back and had dropped a classic. Now six years later its just okay to a lot of people. And i know more people than not fukked with Untitled hard when it dropped. That album is a great album. fukk what you heard. Nas has never dropped less than a 4 mic album and that includes Nastradamus. He may not have the replay value of other artists because he actually be spitting about something not just having a song with an ill beat and a catchy hook. But when u in the mood and listen to all of this shyt in a day or two u realize that this is the greatest poet laureate to ever recite a rap verse. This man paints pictures with his words. I think he could've been a damn good poet or spoken word artist if that's what he wanted.

Nas writes substantive lyrics. You have to take your time with them. It's like reading an opinion written by the Supreme Court. The layers of subtext and alternate interpretations and issues addressed (and stated issues left for later consideration!) canNOT be digested fully with just 1 skimming.

Rick Ross wants to grunt & gloat about gluttony.
Jay-Z will describe black bar mitzvahs to which you are NOT invited & cars/watches that you can't afford.

But Nas' level of social discourse merits an FBI file and govt surveillance. <_< He STAYS on some Malcolm X level ish.

Those who can do, those who can't teach. Simple. Ask yourself the question: What have you done in your miserable, non-significant life that is worth of critique?! Exactly! Nothing! Nas is the greatest rap arti$t of all time, bar none. No disputing, no h8ing.

I get what you saying. I just think people tend to hold him to this unrealistic standard.

Right, it's like a gift and a curse. Illmatic set the bar, but at the same time it seems Nas will always be stuck in the shadow of that album. No matter what he does.
