The way Drake snaked D.R.A.M with Hotline Bling is damn near high way robbery (UPDATE: DRAKE ADMITS)

:wtf:

OK, seriously.....where the fukk was all this :cape:when the Blurred Lines/Marvin Gaye shyt kicked up :dahell:

This is literally damn near the SAME situation....both Drake and Pharrell heard a song, CLEARLY jacked the beat/percussion from the song, recreated the SAME beat pattern using similar-sounding percussion, and slapped on a different melody and new lyrics over it.....

Yet when Pharrell did it, nikkas acted like it was the same thing as Vanilla Ice jacking Queen & David Bowie's tune.....meanwhile nikkas up in here playing crazy and acting like comparing Cha Cha and Hotline Bling is like comparing these 2 songs

The fukk is wrong with y'all :wtf:

Robin Thicke is not Hip Hop.

He's also a cac.....don't forget that part.....

A cac that had to pay up in court....unjustly according to some people. I personally think that case set a bad precedent for music in general, but he still had to PAY.

The situations aren't comparable because of that fact and because of the differences in genre.

And WTF Is with Fader calling "Hot Line Bling" a "Rap" song ?
Neither Cha-Cha nor "Hot Line Bling" sound like "Hip-Hop/Rap" music.

Fader and other publications are helping to blur the lines to the point all
"Urban (euphemism for Black...) music" all sounds like one single thing.

Also :salute: @Pier7 for fighting tooth and nail with the stanleys.

same way 808s & Heartbreak was categorized as a rap album despite being full electro pop.

Well there you have it, Drake admitting to being a copycat and using Jamaican dancehall culture as a justification for doing so :heh:

He took that dude wave and didn't give him shyt for it cause he wasn't some hood rap act he can cosign for cred

....remember ILoveMakonnen, though?

I think we might be underestimating the 'sample clearance' issue here, as it relates to the Super Mario World tune....

I could be wrong....but I think that might be part of the reason why Drake didn't just hop on D.R.A.M.'s song like he did with ILoveMakonnen. Drake could've easily done a Tuesday soundalike and screwed Makonnen over but he didn't....he gave him shine.....

Drake clearly heard a hit in Cha Cha and wanted to ride the wave in one way or another for an official release. Maybe Nintendo stopped that shyt from happening because they don't allow people to use their property; even D.R.A.M. had to eventually do a Cha Cha version without the Nintendo sample (apparently some people don't even realize he sampled Mario because the official youtube video for the song features the version without the sample).....

But then again, Drake could've still did a soundalike that would've suited both him and D.R.A.M., then asked dude to hop on the track....doing the song on his own seems selfish.....

Again:

When he came into the Vice office in Toronto, we asked about how Drake and the OVO camp found out about his song, but unfortunately he said that he’s not allowed to say anything about it. What we did manage to find out is that he deleted the original video and re-uploaded it in May of this year, but when asked why he did that, he took a long pause before answering a different question altogether. Reading between the lines, it would appear that someone stumbled onto the early version of the video and asked him to take it down until the timing was better suited.

So with the strict condition that we were not allowed to ask him anything about Drake, OVO, or being discovered by Drake and OVO, we spoke to the 21-year-old about what he was allowed to tell us.

same way 808s & Heartbreak was categorized as a rap album despite being full electro pop.
In Kanye's defense though there were definitely some records
that could pass as Hip Hop, like "Amazing" and the drum programming
was harder and rhythmically similar to Hip Hop music.

While other records were pretty obviously just Electro pop with auto-tune over it.
