A friend asked me why 90s players would be better in this era while modern players would be worse in the 90s and I told him I’d take it to the coli. Have an answer?
:coffee:

For an example, would Larry Johnson be better if he played today? Would Zion be worse if he played in the 99s?
No and no. :childplease:

Get rid of corner threes and move the line back.

College and Euroleague both take 3s at the same rate as the NBA. Kentucky and Louisville game too 60 3s out of 120 FG. 40% of the shots in college are 3s yet you don’t see college fans calling it unwatchable. :mjlol:

Memphis vs. Clemson:
127 FG, 55 3s

Wisconsin vs. Butler:
109 FG, 50 3s

Purdue vs. Texas A&M:
103 FG, 48 3s

Florida vs. Arizona St:
129 FG, 59 3s

All college games are like this. It’s the same 3-point rate as an NBA game just fewer possessions and shorter games.

Why aren’t college fans calling NCAA “unwatchable”. Or Europe, or womens basketball or literally any other league?

Probably because they don’t have the containment of MJ/‘90s stans looking for any way to prop their era. The flabhead plumbers are all over here. :mjlol:

If the league bans 3s then it’ll just be on to the next thing that makes the NBA “unwatchable”. If players start hitting fadeaways at too high a rate you better believe these same nikkas are gon be like “wow this shyt is unwatchable, look at all these fadaeays, we need to ban the fadeaway y’all. MJ is still the best tho”. :mjcry:

I don't know. Let me say that I only regularly watch Stanford and SDSU basketball. I think the sheer amount of college teams allows for a greater variety of playstyle even if as you say 3pt attempts are up there as well.

I'm not sure why you quoted me and then went on a rant about I being unwatchable; I didn't say that. Do I enjoy teams getting up a ton of threes? Not especially. But three is more than two, so unless rules are changed it's going to get worse.

I'd personally prefer to watch Knicks/Heat from the 90s than Warriors Mavs but Luka and Steph are probably my least favorite players.

Or there aren’t any rim protectors, defensive specialist anymore and traveling doesn’t exist at all
Why would their be as many rim protectors with outside shooting being so much more proficient?

Everything comes at a cost. Players today shoot better from the outside. Handchecking and all the other heads my age love to cite wouldnt make a difference to stop it and rim protectors are more often than not inefficient perimeter defenders who would get exploited in today’s NBA.

Yall need to accept change

They don’t shoot better, they shoot more

My lord, the stubbornness.

1990s: 5-12 attempts per game. The average league three-point percentage was 33%. About 10-12 per team

2000s: 15-18 attempts per game. The league-wide average for three-point shooting hovered around 35%. (Shot more AND shot it better)

2010s: 20-35 attempts per game (with significant increases after 2015). The average league three-point percentage climbed closer to 35% (Shot more AND shot it better)

2020s: 40 attempts per game at 37%.
(Shot more AND shot it better)

These are facts. They simply are better shooters today with better proficiency

See that's what it comes down to, most posters don't understand the 3 ball game just isn't that astheticallynpleasing or entertaining

Mainly because the only type of shot most players take is a spot up three

We just need more general starters and role players hitting moves and shooting 3s in traffic and people will be more excited
This shyt is glorified million dollar games of horse.

I want to see a more versatile set of skills and offensive variety. This is why those "silly ideas" of how to do that are things I'm always willing to listen to.

The 3rd point line being inactive in the 1st and 3rd quarters would accomplish that and not be too convoluted.

We'd have the 3rd point line active in the most important quarters.
