They're not doing Thanos for Avengers 2. Whedon and Feige have already said the next Avenges is going to be a smaller and darker film.
Studios rarely scale back on sequels unless the first bombed which avengers clearly didnt..Why would they want to economize avengers when p2 are always sold as "bigger and better"

Joss Whedon promises “The Avengers 2″ will be “smaller” and “more personal” – IFC
When SFX asked Whedon how he plans on topping the upcoming ensemble Marvel superhero film in “The Avengers 2,” he answered, “By not trying to. By being smaller. More personal, more painful. By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself.”

Whedon has been saying this sort of stuff since before the first film was released. This is an excerpt from an article from last year:

Joss Whedon wants Avengers 2 to be "smaller" - Movie News | JoBlo.com
According to Joss Whedon, it isn't the size that counts, especially with the probable sequel to THE AVENGERS.

He wants the hypothetical follow up to be "smaller, more personal, more painful."

"I want to know what makes them tick, what makes them flawed, what makes them fight - and ultimately, what makes them awesome," he explained. "I go to these movies for those moments when the heroes define themselves, either through action or deliciously overwritten speeches."

Then what was the point of showing Thanos in the 1st movie?

Keep in mind that Marvel is playing the long game with their movies. Thanos could very well be the villain for the 3rd Avengers film. Or they might have him play a role in Guardians of the Galaxy.

I completely get them not wanting ot basically make the exact same movie just with more characters.

Their still doing a lot of world building. It makes sense in terms of the movies they want to make and in terms of the merchandise they want to sell. I appreciate the patience they've shown and it's payed off, and hopefully they'll continue doing things that way.

Bishop, Cable and Apoc are all in this film :whoo:

:rudy:

I guarantee they'll get some no name actor to play Bishop, he'll barely be in it, wont be anything like he is in the comics, and he'll be the first and only major character to be killed.
