Its not Trump though. Huawei being a party to Chinese Intelligence has been a recognized issue for years. Its just more-so in the news now.

He's right on this one. fukk Huawei. China is absolutely an enemy of the United States.

Yep. China has hacked the DOD network servers several times and has spied on US using rootkits on phones. Huawei is dirty and they know it.

The Chinese make some of the best phones for under 400.00 period. If it weren’t for the lack of compatible network bands they’d be a lot more popular over here. We’d never get anything with snapdragon 855 for under 400 in America.
For the longest I wrote Huawei off as some el cheapo phones until I recently got to play around with a mid-range and top-tier model. Them shyts was :whoo::ohlawd::ooh: And the price point got me looking at Samsung like :comeon:

Also, I don't underestimate Huawei or the Chinese. I wouldn't be surprised if in the future they reverse engineer a way you can operate Android on their phones :hubie:

This is actually great news. Rich Chinese have literally taken over California, pricing out millions of black people. "PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES" in California and nearly impossible to get into for blacks, as rich Chinese are literally buying up school seats and blocking affirmative action efforts out on by these school to recruit blacks.

I feel Trump is doing the right thing here. The Chinese literally dump raw sewage and radiation into their own gutters and streams, destroying their beaches, then come to the US and use their slave labor created wealth to buy up all the beachfront property on ocean drive, pricing out most negroes.

Get these dudes outta here. :camby:

Same shyt in Canada. The average price of a house in Vancouver is about a million dollars because of these rich Chinese.

They've created a lot of political power in California too. Electing Asian congressmen in the state congress who oppose affirmative action because it allegedly takes opportunities away from Asians. Meanwhile white kids with legacy offers waltz into Cali universities in droves and Asians look the other way.

Huawei's '60% Faster' Android OS, Report Claims

Further signs from China on June 11 that Huawei’s new smartphone operating system could be used to drive a wedge in Google Android’s dominance of the market. According to China’s Global Times, which is essentially a government mouthpiece, “Huawei is reportedly intensively testing its proprietary operating system (OS) HongMeng with internet giants and domestic smartphone vendors, and the new system will be launched in the next few months.”

Given the source, the story needs to be contextualized as being part of the ongoing PR battle being waged by Beijing against Washington. The theme behind the story is China’s threat to split the global smartphone ecosystem, providing an alternative to Google’s full-blown Android software and services. If Huawei and the government can rally other leading Chinese players, so the theory goes, this becomes much more than simply one company’s attempt to survive a blacklisting.

The Global Times cited technology giant Tencent, as well as smartphone makers Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo, and quoted an unnamed source “close to a major Chinese carrier” saying that the major Chinese technology companies “are actively working with Huawei to push forward the release of HongMeng OS, which is also considered as a major blow to the US-led crackdown.”

There have been reports that the new OS will launch on Huawei’s anticipated Mate 30 launch in the Fall. The Global Times referenced the P40 as an alternative. There have been conflicting reports as to the actual market-readiness of the OS, which might explain why an executive of Huawei’s business consumer group told the newspaper that the actual launch date remained “secret.”

None of the technology companies referenced provided comments.

The Global Times headlined its story with the claim that the new OS will be “60% faster than Android,” repeating a claim made by the head of Huawei’s smartphone business Richard Yu. Nothing has yet substantiated this claim, albeit there has been some analysis around the way code might be compiled to enable this. Safest bet on this claim right now, though, is PR.

Interestingly, a more measured opinion piece at the same time in the less governmental South China Morning Post questioned whether Huawei’s front-foot battle with the U.S. is survivable without concessions from talks between leaders Trump and Xi. The bluster was “a nice morale booster for the troops but belied the reality of Huawei’s dependence on U.S. core technology.” The stark situation for Huawei remains that CEO Ren and his lieutenants are “facing the full force of the United States government, with the fight to the end has come sooner than expected.”

Meanwhile, Bloomberg has reported that both Google and Apple are weighing up options for manufacturing products outside of China to maneuver around U.S. sanctions and Chinese reciprocation. Google “is moving some production of Nest thermostats and server hardware out of China, avoiding punitive U.S. tariffs and an increasingly hostile government in Beijing,” while “Apple has a backup plan if the U.S.-China trade war gets out of hand,” with the company’s manufacturing partner Foxconn having “enough capacity to make all iPhones bound for the U.S. outside of China if necessary.”

Clearly, Google stands to lose the most from a concerted Chinese effort around a non-Google OS. In China where Google services are blocked, Huawei already uses the open-source version of Android. This limits security updates and prompted Google to warn the U.S. government of national security risks, asking for the blacklist to exempt Android. Of course, the open-source OS also cuts Google off from the consumer data that drives its advertising machine – another reason why the world’s second largest smartphone maker cutting OS ties carries a heavy cost.

As I commented earlier this week, the new OS is “make or break” for Huawei unless something changes in the U.S. stance. The company needs the OS to land quickly and successfully. It needs to steady its consumer ship. It needs to recover the upper hand to restore confidence in the brand. And it will be a hellish trick to pull off, asking consumers in countries outside China – where access to the full-blown Android ecosystem is taken for granted – to move to something new. Media reports from China need to be read with that qualification fully in mind.

Say Hello to the Russia-China Mobile Operating System
The US ban on Huawei is pushing it to develop alternative systems that may rival Google and Android
By Pepe Escobar

Google cuts Huawei off Android; so Huawei may migrate to Aurora. Call it mobile Eurasia integration; the evolving Russia-China strategic partnership may be on the verge of spawning its own operating system – and that is not a metaphor.

Aurora is a mobile operating system currently developed by Russian Open Mobile Platform, based in Moscow. It is based on the Sailfish operating system, designed by Finnish technology company Jolla, which featured a batch of Russians in the development team. Quite a few top coders at Google and Apple also come from the former USSR – exponents of a brilliant scientific academy tradition.

In 2014, Russian entrepreneur Grigory Berezkin started co-owning Jolla, and from 2016 his Mobile Platform company started developing a Russian version of the operating system. In 2018, Rostelecom, a state company, bought a 75% share in Open Mobile Platform.

Ahead of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum last week, Huawei chairman Guo Pingdiscussed the possibility of adopting Aurora with Russian minister of digital development and communications, Konstantin Noskov. According to Guo, “China is already testing devices with the Aurora pre-installed.

In Moscow, before moving to St Petersburg, Presidents Putin and Xi Jinping discussed multiple possible deals; and these include Huawei-Aurora, as well as where to locate some of Huawei’s production lines in Russia.

Google, here we come

Aurora could be regarded as part of Huawei’s fast-evolving Plan B. Huawei is now turbo-charging the development and implementation of its own operating system, HongMeng, a process that started no less than seven years ago.

Most of the work on an operating system is writing drivers and APIs (application programming interfaces). Huawei would be able to integrate their code to the Russian system in no time.

HongMeng, for its part, is a key project of Huawei 2012 Laboratories, the innovation, research and technological development arm of the Shenzhen colossus.

No Google? Who cares? Tencent, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo are already testing the HongMeng operating system, as part of a batch of one million devices already distributed.

HongMeng’s launch is still a closely guarded secret by Huawei, but according to CEO Richard Yu, it could happen even before the end of 2019 for the Chinese market, running on smartphones, computers, TVs and cars. HongMeng is rumored to be 60% faster than Android.

The HongMeng system may also harbor functions dedicated to security and protection of users’ data. That’s what’s scaring Google the most; Huawei developing a software impenetrable to hacking attempts. Google is actively lobbying the Trump administration to add another reprieve – or even abandon the Huawei ban altogether.

By now it’s clear Team Trump has decided to wield a trade war as a geopolitical and geoeconomic weapon. They may have not calculated that other Chinese producers have the power to swing markets. Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo, for instance, are not (yet) banned in the US market, and combined they sell more than Samsung. They could decide to move to Huawei’s operating system in no time.

By the end of August, probably at an industry fair in Berlin, Huawei should be announcing its new chip Kirin 985. And by September the first Huawei smartphone equipped with HongMeng could be hitting the market.

Watch that Lineage

Google bought Android in 2005. Android is based on Linux, a free software operating system. There are already similar and better free software systems on the market, such as Lineage, which has a version adapted to at least two Huawei models, the P20 Pro and the Honor View 10.

The existence of Lineage operating system is proof that Huawei is not facing a lot of hurdles developing HongMeng – which will be compatible with all Android apps. There would be no problem to adopt Aurora as well. Huawei will certainly open is own app store to compete with Google Play.

The next step for Huawei and other producers is to go for Made in China processing and memory chips, breaking the stranglehold by Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Micron Technology, Western Digital and the British ARM.

And then there’s the Holy Grail: 5G. Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei has repeatedly stressed that what really matters is how advanced Huawei is compared to the competition.

Total tech war is in full effect. Huawei may face a very hard spell ahead. But at the end of a long and winding road there may be a sweet, unbeatable prize; prevailing over Google, Cisco, Microsoft, Qualcomm, and all that with invaluable help from the Trump administration.
