Its almost impossible for the US military to engage in another war, they still have soldiers in Afghanistan, Iraq and wherever the fukk else. Trump pretty clearly couldn't give a fukk about anything other than America either, he doesn't care about foreign policy unless its a vote winner back home.

That's not even remotely true. There were 240,000 soldiers deployed in Iraq at the height of the war. There are only about 5,000 there right now.

There were over 100,000 soldiers deployed in Afghanistan at the height of that war. There are only about 15,000 there right now.

It would be incredible idiocy to start another war at this point (or ever), but it's not a manpower issue. They could easily raise enough men to keep fighting more war.

Yes? Do you think the US military is capable of fighting unlimited wars across the world? When has Trump given a shyt about foreign policy? He is the most parochial American president in decades.

What, in your mind, would stop Trump from starting a war just because he felt insulted? Or because he thought it would make him look tough and powerful? Because he needed a distraction from the scandals? Because his base is a bunch of hawks.

There are a million reasons he might do it.

On the other hand, what is the moral center that keeps Trump from doing bad things? What is the knowledge of history and military capabilities which keeps him from doing stupid things?

The only thing between Trump and war is whether or not he believes it will increase his prestige and power among his base. If he feels like war with Iran is popular with the 35% of the country that fanatically supports him, and if whoever random people he trusts at that moment doesn't convince him it will be an absolute disaster, he will go to war. Same goes for North Korea, Somalia, or anywhere else.

with respect to the fact that this is a stupid and easily led country, i dont see the dotard being able to sell americans on iran

15 years later, we still havent finished iraq and afghanistan. shouldnt be hard for the anti war half of the country to remind the rest of them of that fact

What's most likely going to happen is that the US will push Saudi Arabia and the pro US Sunni coalition to go to war with Iran to restore the status quo. And since the oil rich gulf states have utterly incompetent militaries, they'll probably be alot of US military personnel and mercenaries helping lead the war. This will be Iran/ Iraq War 2.0.

Are you counting contractors? Actual troop levels were never that high.

Israel tried to con us into Iran with Bush after they conned our government into Iraq. Nobody in Congress wants to eat that L. Trump might want to go in, but Congress won't back him.

At the peak of the invasion, approximately 130,000-160,000 U.S. forces were on actual Iraqi soil, but another 70,000-100,000 were positioned in staging grounds in Kuwait, on naval ships, and in other support locales.

The Pentagon said April 8 that some 340,000 U.S. servicemen and women were under the authority of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which covers a region stretching from the Horn of Africa through the Persian Gulf and into Central Asia. GlobalSecurity.org, a defense information website, estimated that about 235,000 of these troops were engaged in the Iraq war.

Pentagon officials said more than 125,000 troops were in Iraq. Others remained in Kuwait, the main staging area for the ground force. In more limited numbers, U.S. forces were also in Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Israel, Djibouti, and Diego Garcia, a 17-square-mile island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Tens of thousands of additional troops were at sea in aircraft carrier battle groups or on Marine amphibious assault ships.

IRAQ: U.S. Deployments at the War’s Height

At the peak of occupation, approximately 166,000 troops were on actual U.S. soil, but again that does not count the troops engaged in the war from Kuwait and other bases as well as from sea:

I highly doubt that. The Gulf nations are not going to war with Iran unless the US is leading it. Hell Israel isn't going to war with Iran unless the US leads it. The problem with those countries is their militaries are built to fight a conventional war but a war with Iran will be assymetrical which will render conventional weaponry useless.
