The mass castrations were horrible, but I don't think most slaves were actually castrated. It was a cruel way of limiting slave numbers and increasing value, but they also wanted them to reproduce. Check even popular sources like the Arabian Nights- there are slaves in a lot of the stories, and a common racist trope is that the Black slave will seduce or rape the pure Arab woman.
