Hammer predates SoundScan and back in the day, rappers didn’t debut at #1 until Snoop did it. Generally, rappers would debut low and then move up the chart. For example, the Chronic sold six million records but it debuted at 26 I think.
You know what, I’m just remembering that NWA interview where they were making a big deal about them being the first act since Mike Jackson to get to number one on the charts their second week.

Interesting how no rappers from the 10's made it besides Travis and Juice Wrld (not counting Drake, Kendrick, Cole or Nicki cuz they had projects in the 00's)
