Yes, critics certainly agree that Chinatown was the only good film of the 1970s.

Not the Only good film. There were plenty of good films.

Chinatown is the only film in the 1970's worth mentioning for a 10 GOAT list.

I'd say once upon a time in America is the only film of the 80's worth mentioning.

the 90's was a good time in film.

imo the acting in most movies from the 30s -50s were very stiff and robotic. kinda like they were just reciting lines or participating in a very bad play. in all honesty though it could just be my extreme dislike for the accents from those time period.:yeshrug:

my favorite films from the 1920s-1960s

A Streetcar Named Desire; Brando. Check it out some time. It's often what is cited as the turning point away from that theater style of acting.

Keep in mind...modern acting is just as fukking phony and ridiculous as the old stuff, they are just different styles. In 100 years, people will look back on our stuff now and probably think the same exact thing you think now.

City of God is like the token foreign film people like to name.

It's good but it ain't that good.

City of God is in my top 10 all time.

The other foreign movie? Amélie

:manny:

Yeah, they came out like 10 years ago, fukk it.

Film is art...but it is truly, truly, TRULY the most pedestrian of arts imo. I just don't think there is much need for pretentious thought, but discussions on films are littered with them.

Of course, I personally think that influence is shyt, because it doesn't give anyone else a chance....but that's a completely different subject entirely, and isn't exclusive to films.

Aren't you the dude that thinks Hidden (Cache) is trash and and The Social Network is the greatest film of the 21st century... :mjpls:

The Social Network is probably my favorite film in the last decade.

I think There Will Be Blood is the greatest film of the 21st century though. Others I've considered are Eternal Sunshine and Children Of Men. Social Network is in the Top 10 though...I think it's a masterpiece. But I'm a diehard fan of Aaron Sorkin, so I'm probably a little biased. :manny:

And no, I didn't not like Cache AT ALL. I don't think I ever called it trash, if I did I'd regret it....but I didn't enjoy it in the least.

I do agree that The Social Network is a great film. Masterpiece? Maybe. We'll see how well it ages.

Cache though is in my top 5 of the last decade. Flawless film.

Wasn't there rumours of Ron Howard remaking it? :scusthov: :scusthov: :scusthov:
