Fred, isnt the list supposed to be the 'best written shows' not the most consistently best written shows ? lots of some of the best shows ever fell off at some point eventually...

Any show that had 1 good season doesn't belong on the list. I know that cancels out classic shyt like "Twin Peaks", but let's be real here. If the bar is that low (1 good season) then it trivializes the whole list. It's like making a list of GOAT MCs that fell off after 1 album. shyt makes no sense.

Fred.

When Breaking Bad is done and they do this list again in years, I'm sure it'll crack the top 10.

I still haven't watched The Sopranos, seeing I like crime related shows.

Fresh Prince my fav show of all time, disappointed that wasn't there.

do y'all even click the links? curbs in the 30s and breaking bads #13

Of course not, ain't nobody got time for all that.

But I thought curb wasn't really written...more like loose storylines filled in with ad libs. I love curb, but it ain't a top 50 written show imo.

And I'm convinced that nikkas who hate on Seinfeld never really gave it a chance. Either never seen a full episode or only seen one or two episodes and dismissed it as CaC humor. I used to be like that, until I went to college and didn't have cable in the dorms. They showed Seinfeld and Friends reruns ALL THE TIME and I came to appreciate that Friend's ain't as bad as I had thought and Seinfeld is legitimately one of the best shows ever. Writing is impeccable.

Larry david wrote both curb and seinfeld. how can you call seinfeld writing impeccable and say curb aint all that? Its like the R rated cable version of Seinfeld :what:

I just said why I think that: cuz curb relies on ad libs from the actors.

It's like calling a coach a great game planner when he just relies on his squad's athleticism.

Im sayin...curbs writing is not all that great at all. its a situational comedy with, as you said, adlibs for most parts
to be fair, I think seinfeld shouldnt be top 10 there as well, as the writing isnt THAT amazing (and I love seinfeld), but imo seinfeld is just a better show with a lot more thought put into it

Seinfeld is the best written comedy of all time. I don't even think that's up for debate. The dialogue, the irony, the originality, the pop culture references its started (people who never even watched the show know about the soup nazi.) I know we all like to think we could be in the mafia or some kind of crimelord but theres not another show out there I can think of that can take ordinary simple life situations and make brilliant stories from them. At least once a week it seems like I find myself chuckling and thinking of something that happened to me or someone I know that can be traced back to an episode of Seinfeld.

I love seinfeld but its writing isnt anywhere at the level of AD. if you wanna talk about references, satire, play on words and multilayered jokes...AD got it

I can live with the Top 10 but I definitely do think Arrested Development should've been in it. I can't think of any comedy series, hell, even any other series for that matter, that is so well put together with information given in the first episodes of the first season being setups for jokes in the third season.

The show is also so deep with the jokes that you could rewatch the show five times and still catch new things, from sight gags to wordplay to background details. The fourth season that just came out basically confirmed it. It might've started off a bit slow, but when things eventually started to come together you realize the slow start is actually filled with references and nods to things you just hadn't seen yet, so on repeated viewings your mind is gonna be blown again.

By that definition, How I Met Your Mother should definitely be on the list. It should be on the list anyway.

But Homeland shouldn't be on there. Sleeper Cell was much better written. The Wonder Years is too low, Top 30 at least; Columbo? scratch off. Dexter is a well written show. And where are The Bundys? Wait...there's NO South Park? I think they are picking memorable characters for some shows, verses the actually quality of writing. I actually think Quantum Leap should be on there for the amount of depth it brought every character each episode.

Look I like Martin, but writing was NOT a strength of that show. The writing on Martin was an abomination. Only reason that show was any good was the actors.
