I know enough to know his whole grift.

If you've read any Gladwell you know that his job is to write rules of thumb like this that interest people and that can be easily shared. Some people learn much faster than others and we all have our natural aptitudes so generalization is kind of silly.

Some people are more talented at some things than others, people need to stop lying to themselves. Somebody can master something in a week that somebody else can spend 100,000 hours on and not get there.

I can look with my own two eyes and make that observation, like everyone else can.

Some people will never reach a level no matter how much time they punch in, while someone else can get there in a month. That stuff happens.

He just takes big ideas and re-packages them without any real explanation to how he comes to his conclusions and the evidence he's presented has been consistently disproven. Thing is, he's actually a good writer and can easily trick you into believing he's not misrepresenting the information he's using. He writes pop science - not social science (like he'd want us to believe).

But he never said innate talent “doesn’t exist.” Your interpretation of his stance is off, which is why you should read the books yourself. And that’s not saying that you won’t still disagree, but at least you can be more accurate with your disagreements.

I thought about reading revenge of the tipping point, I have it downloaded but I don't know if or when I'll get to it.
