For what it’s worth even if something becomes canon later I don’t always view it that way ya know? Like...for example in the new terminator
They kill John Connor immediately following the events of T2. But James Cameron clearly meant for John to survive the story back when he concluded it in 1991.

Or like how Hicks technically survived Aliens and Alien 3 because that goofy Colonial Marines video game story is now official Alien canon.

So I go back and forth on whether Child’s was the thing or not but I don’t think Carpenter was making any creative decisions thinking there would be a sequel in mind.

I remembered that the og script of Alien 3 (hicks and newt survive) was finally put in graphic novel format. It’s crazy that they dropped that one for the film they chose to release smh.

Word? I need to check that out.

Yeah, I agree. You ever seen the fukkery that went on behind the scenes of that movie. Apparently what we ended up getting was this weird hybrid of several scripts, and they had all of the sets built before a final script was even chosen. So shyt was being written, deleted, and re-written throughout the entire filming process. Apparently it was a miracle that they were even able to complete a coherent film at all, and to this day David Fincher refuses to talk about how bad the experience was: "No one hated it more than me; to this day, no one hates it more than me."

I love the fact that there's still people talking about his movie. Even if some of the details may be possible oversights and continuity errors, there's still the benefit of the doubt that they could be intentional directorial additions that adds more fuel to the fire in regards to theories of who's a Thing

I think they were both human.
Me too actually. I think part of the reason the ending is so eerie is partially because you don't know if Childs is the thing or not, obviously. But also because it doesn't really matter. They're both fukked regardless. Everything is destroyed. The shelter, food, etc. There's likely no help coming and they're going to freeze to death anyways.
