6-7 hours seems fine for me when everything is clicking. That said, I sleep pretty deep and my room as dark as possible. Like at @Luck said. If your diet and workouts are on point you can likely function with less than 8 and be fine.

I need start getting to bed earlier. Even with 6, 7 hours of sleep I'm damn near narcoleptic during the day.
