the more of the tao u speak the less you know, friends

i tried understanding this when i heard it before, i didnt get it... the way i see the tao is, it is, and always will be, whether speaking on it or not.

how else would i be sure i understand the tao fully without speaking on it?

Pursuing books on the so-called topic, opinions of others and listening to audio will not help in understanding 'Zen' or 'Tao.' (Although Alan Aatts is always brilliant at his talks & books :salute:) It starts with, as far as i understand, with 'ourselves' - to understand the nature and 'ways' of who we 'think' we actually are. From there... you can go on studying what others have said... perhaps.

Zen master Bassu was quoted as saying -> To benefit from reading the sutras you must first awaken the mind that reads them (that is know yourself). Formal study is ultimately unhelpful. The wounderful nature of your own mind, unchanging through countless ages, is the essence of all the sutras (teachings, scriptures and so on.)
