There had already been no less than TWO bills (plus other directives) passed by Bush AND Obama dealing with Kony (funding forces to stop him) before Kony 2012. During Bush's administration (2008-2009 legislation/actions, during and after his term), the U.S. provided supplies. intelligence, and helped plan one of the operations to catch him. It was pointless. Obama had already passed more legislation and sent troops (2010, 2011+). What else did they want done? Most of the footage that was in that promo was from a doc that came out several years beforehand, I remember watching it on Youtube. I wonder where all the money they were donated (pre-Kony 2012) went.

I suspect it was a mix of emotion, narcissism (draw to be arm chair soldiers for social change w/ minimal effort), and a genuine desire to help that got people so amped up. If you don't take the time to educate yourself about something, how seriously can you be taking it? All it would've taken is a Google search to elucidate all of this.
It's very easy to manipulate people via their emotions. I'm friends with someone on FB who's baby was very sick (had never left the hospital) and people were stealing photos of the baby to play on people's sympathy (probably for likes, donations, etc.). The mother had to watermark the photos. While preparing to finally bring the baby home and he ended up taking a turn for the worse and passing away a few days before he was suppose to leave the hospital. People usually feel bad and throw money, likes/follows,, at a problem to make themselves feel better. I notice like half of the missing children on FB/Twitter have already been found or there's no record of a child by that name missing.

On another note, I always tell people to research charities, even the big well known ones because a lot of times you'd be shocked how much money actually makes it to the target. A lot of it goes to perpetuating the charity, travel, administration feels, shindigs and do what their mission is on the side.

***Saw an example of what I was talking about in the spoiler on the front page of CNN tonight:

Top comment was right on the money.
Best way to give money is to do it directly. Bring toys to a children's hospital. Bring food to a soup kitchen. Bring clothes to a church. Giving money to "charity" is like burning it with a match...So much goes to waste, overhead and scamming that little, if any, actually reach those you really want to help.
