A few months back I posted about Spike Lee being unable to find funding for any of his movies because Hollywood didn't care about any black movie that wasn't Tyler Perry.

I bet Tyler Perry would find funding for his brand of c00nery in 10 seconds flat. And people are saying that his movies don't affect other black directors?

Fruitvale station might save black movie making after all. If the Weinstens don't fukk over that young writer/director.

As I stated in the Video, I promise on my Mother's Grave and Right Hand to the Almighty - every Red Cent, every Wooden Nickel, every Dollar will go up on the Screen and not into my pocket. I'm not taking a Fee, your generous contributions will get this Film made.

It's moreso the state of the industry. They just want their creative control. Finding private investors who want nothing to do with the film or to meddle seems like it'd be hard if someone is pouring their money into it.

Tyler wouldn't have trouble getting funded because his movies are bankable and I'm sure he wouldn't mind execs messing around with his movie. Spike's are not and Spike would not enjoy that.

Just in the same way that Zach Braff would have trouble funding a movie where he would have complete control vs. Michael Bay who would have no trouble banking a movie.

Zach Braff is not going to find funding for any movie off of the strength of a sitcom. He is not a movie star. He is not an established director or producer. That's why he went to Kickstarter.

Spike Lee is a proven director who used to have films greenlit all day. But now he's in the same boat as Zach Braff. Can't find funding.

But Tyler Perry DOES NOT DISTRIBUTE HIS OWN MOVIES. How many times do nikkas have to be told that THAT'S where the problem is for black Hollywood. Tyler Perry is guaranteed distribution because every studio loves his c00nery. So he can gamble his own money. Spike Lee is NO LONGER GUARANTEED distribution. Redhook Summer (a film Spike funded himself) was in how many movie theaters?

Making the movie (given that it's not big budget action film) is the easy part. Distribution is the tough part. Without a big distribution push you will never see your money back.

I watched the video, read everything on the page twice and then rewatched the video to see if I missed something, but no...

At no point is it mentioned what the fukk the movie will be about outside of "Human beings who are addicted to blood. Funny, sexy, and bloody (and it's not "Blacula")...", a description so vague it doesn't tell us shyt.

Like, there's really nothing there. Both the video as the whole wall of text boils down to "I'm Spike Lee and I want you to give me money because I'm Spike Lee". Normally I'd be the first to support a new Spike Lee joint but this shyt represents everything wrong with Kickstarter because the only reason Spike Lee gives why I should care about this project is because he's Spike Lee.

The fact he mentions the Veronica Mars and Zach Braff Kickstarters only confirm that. He really thinks being a big name will get him financing automatically and shyt just doesn't work that way.

I'm not trying to be all in Spike's pockets like that but how come he is not able to fund his own movies at this stage in his career? Why is he relying solely on hollywood investors?? his movies don't generally have crazy special effects and computer animation. If its true that Tyler Perry funds his own movies... why can't Spike? Is he just not willing to risk the potential loss?? if that is the case I'm not investing in something Spike has no confidence in although I enjoy a majority of the movies he makes. its a shame......

No Tyler Perry is guaranteed distribution because his films always make a huge profit at the box office in addition to huge home sales. Perry has a small but fiercely loyal fanbase and he makes all of his films on a shoestring budget.

but to be real, last spike lee joint that was beyond average was 25th hour
