Post 96’ is the end of the golden era

Rap reaches the masses in 98 but hip hop as a whole undergoes a huge shift in the culture and things are never the same
Said it on here before, and dudes didn't wanna hear it. 96 was the last truly great year in hiphop. Of course classic albums dropped after, but that feeling of hiphop dominating your life on a weekly basis because so much incredible music was constantly dropping stopped after 96.

Idk that I agree with that. Yes the music is ass generally, but I don't think it sounds the same as 2018.
For me, I can tell the difference in the 90s stuff down the the year based on the rhyming and beats...you could pretty much do this from 87-2005 or so.

Most mainstream rap is trap and sounds just about the same. I def couldn't tell the difference between a 2017 migos song and a 2023 migos song.

. . . . the mainstream emergence of Marshall helped contribute to the final dilution of what was the ashes of the essence in the late-90s. ..

Yea...the fall off in those years was significant. Lot of factors, but too much r&b mixture, everyone trying to have a club hit, corny early 2000s beats, etc. etc.

Even 2000 to 2002 there's a noticeable decline in quality, let a lone going back to 98 which was a great year in hip hop

2002 was pretty fukking weak looking back. Lord Willin', Gods Son (kinda mid), Lost Tapes, The Fix were all dope but overall the year was weak

Godson was mid? With songs like Get Down, Made Ya Look, Book of Rhymes, Revolutionary Warfare, Last Real Nikka Alive, Thugz Mansion, Mastermind
