These lists never go over what criteria they are basing their decisions on. What goes into being a great lyricist?
Rakim's lyrics are incredible to this day, his new shyt, and his old shyt surpasses most lyrics today too.
You say this like Rakim retired in the 80s. His lyrics in the mid 90s were incredible too.
You're clearly unfamiliar with Rakim because it has nothing to do with nostalgia it has to do with the high quality of lyricism he was using throughout his entire career. He only got better in the 90s. He had some of the most complex multisyllablic rhyming ever. If people are saying his lyrics from the 80s are superior then yeah, but if you talking about the mid to late 90s, you can make a legit argument.I'm sure alot of people in the 90's were greater than the average rapper's today, (that's not saying much) yet there names aren't on this list. Your arguments are why I hate Rakim's legacy because the majority of it is based on some nostalgic bs. To suggest that Ra's lyricism from twenty plus years ago is greater than what everyone on this list has done is absurd. Yeah he gets props for raising the bar on lyricism but to say he's the top is beyond silly.
