I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Tony was mad sensitive about not making Junior's comments about him never having the makings of a varsity athlete. Like that shyt hurt him down deep!!
I remember in Season 1 when they were playing Golf and
Junior: "Will you let the man tee off, you yap worse than six barbers. If you’d have shut up during that game against Mountain Lakes you wouldn’t have missed that fukking fly ball. I was embarrassed to face my friends.”
Tony:
nah, tony did take that criticism hard, because junior mentions it again in season 5 during his early dementia/alzheimer's stage and sets tony off and then tony dreams about it later that season in the infamous "test dream" episode in season 5, where he ends up in his old high school football team's locker room and his coach says something similar and it fukks tony up again and makes him flustered. those comments hit him hard and you could tell.
i always found that relationship dynamic that tony and junior to be very flawed yet intriguing and nearly as important as tony's relationship with christopher was in the scheme of the show.
