THIS WILL SOUND PARANOID, BUT I HAVE STARTED TO SUSPECT THAT DEAD7 IS PAID TO POST AN AGENDA, BROTHER! WE ALREADY KNOW THAT SUCH ONLINE SHILLS EXIST, DUDE! IN FACT, HOLLYWOOD IS GOING TO MAKE A THREAD ON IT RIGHT NOW, MEAN GENE!
I had something substantive (or at least I thought it was) to add to this thread but after reading this post in The Hulkster's voice I laughed so hard I completely forgot what the hell I was going to right.

Do you guys think it is the responsibility of the employers to train applicants? :what:

If you own a private business, and don't -need- to higher anyone but are looking at applications, wouldn't you be looking for some one exceptional?:what:

Your first post says we need to train people. In your opinion, whose responsibility is it?

Its the persons responsibility to build up his or her human capital(skills/knowledge). There are tons of avenues for people actually interested/motivated in acquiring the skills.

I can't wait to hear the case for why its some one else's responsibility to make sure you're educated, and know what you need to know before you apply...:lupe:

:whoa:For clarity let me expand on the "we need to train" people comment.

We(society) needs to utilize trade schools a whole lot more, and work with employers to ensure these trade schools are producing competent workers(worthy of the premium). Part of this would be a reduction in education subsidies. Too many people got to college, plain and simple. The value of a Bachelors degree has been steadily tanking, and in some industries means little.(simple supply and demand) Also the trade schools we need people to utilize are worthless when a college education is just as accessible... and available enough to be asked for without a drawback.

Basically, not as many jobs would be able to require college degrees if such degrees were no longer so readily available at someone else's expense.

Training also comes in the form of internships(something many college students are catching onto) which is great. Students will take a job paid or unpaid, in order to earn the business and hopefully secure a job after they graduate(or sooner :mjpls:). Being willing to work an unpaid internship in order to build human capital, is exactly the mindset a hungry person needs to have.

Apprenticeships are another avenue, and far less restrictive than internships.

and :bryan: @ the article suggesting employers should just settle for whats comin in the door.
No, he makes sense

Employers are just managing to do more with less, and only hiring when they absolutely need to.

This trend, plus the increase in the automation of low skill work, bodes ominously. I still think it is silly to point to any one boogeyman though. Yes, companies are playing ruthless hardball, but at the same time Americans have let their labor skills atrophy with respect to global demand.

It will be a cold day in hell before colleges allow the narrative to shift to show prosperity can (and probably will be) obtained outside of their avenues. In IT for example if you have an in and a path you want to follow, and the motivation to teach yourself, you can do OK w/o a degree.

Govt shouldn't pull out completely but they should definitely control the flow of money better. Cap public and private loan amounts, only subsidize professional majors, etc etc... a lot of these colleges would die out w/o loan money so it seems only right for the govt to use that to the people's advantage.

Wait so employees are opting to not work at all rather than take a job at the rates being offered? :dwillhuh:

:ohhh: So they are unemployed by choice?

:what:This sense of entitlement to certain pay getting out of hand...
I wonder if they would be rejecting those jobs if taxpayers weren't going to be supporting them :mjpls:

Man....You already know the answer to that

You can make 8-10k a week in northern Alberta with welding tickets. Of course, you have to live in northern Alberta...
