aight now chevy chase is taking the character a bit too seriously

"According to an insider, the acting vet was struggling with his character’s dialogue and, in a moment of frustration, uttered the racial epithet

:laff: @ this though. how would he even use it in that context? DAMN THESE ****** LINES!!

edit: from the comments

“People close to the situation say that Chase had been increasingly frustrated and uncomfortable with the direction of his character, Pierce, who is a bigot. After getting fed more lines he found offensive during a scene yesterday, I hear he snapped and launched the tirade, airing his frustration and suggesting that the way things with Pierce are going, he may next be asked to call Troy (Glover) or Shirley (Brown) the N-Word.”

:leon: guess he isn't happy with pierce's direction

Pierce is one of funniest one's on the show.

It was def one of my favorites..

I read an article once where people were trying to compare community to Big Bang theory and dude missed the key point. Big Bang theory is not a show for nerds, it's a show for people who think nerd culture is silly to laugh at those characters for enjoying the things they do, or being how they are. Plus the references are so old and dated, and purposely cursory( Batman, Superman, star trek).

Community has the following it does because it's not mocking the nerd/pop culture it talks about it celebrates it in a very real, and detailed way. It will never pull the audience of a show like BBT because instead of making a joke about sheldon making a video game. Community does an entire episode in 8 bit annimation and takes it very seriously. Instead of having them start a scene playing dungeons and dragons as a jump off to another conversation like on BBT, community plays the entire game and explores the character types as the shows characters. The alternate timeline senerio was not just a throw away comment followed by a laugh track because "how silly is that thought". It was the jumping off point to 21 minutes of genius writing and character exploration.

Community's fans obsess about it because it obsesses about stuff we care about and gets it right almost all of the time.

:lawd: +rep for this brilliance

Goodbye, Pierce Hawthorne: Chevy Chase is Leaving Community - IGN

Chevy Chase’s time on Community is over. Deadline reports that after a ton of well-reported behind-the-scenes drama, the veteran comedic actor is departing the series “by mutual agreement.” This will be occurring effective immediately, though Community is nearly done filming its thirteen-episode season, so Chase will be in all but one or two of the upcoming episodes.
