So you admit his NATO reason was weak as fukk. If he really wanted the smoke, he'd pull up on the Baltic states who are actually IN NATO. All this invasion does is give more nations reason to join and justifies membership of late coming members. Putin has been butthurt since the 90s. Maybe if they allowed elections, a cold war relic wouldn't still be in power, and Russia themselves could have joined the alliance like they wanted to do decades ago.Public opinion/media propoganda. The people aren't going to accept/understand NATO expansion as a good reason for war but everyone hates Nazis and bioweapons.
The United States made the Nazi excuse easy to legitimize since us leaders were/are funding and gassing up Nazis/white nationalists in the Ukraine to fight Russians prior to invasion. They were literally shelling Russians in east Russia racking up 15000 bodies.
Not to mention Russia ate 2 NATO expansions that they weren't happy with. Couple that with the UK flying a battleship through the black Sea and the us flying a bomber near Russian borders, from their perspective it was time to popoff. Basing this on the 2008 stance where Russia said expansion will lead to war.
The us would do the same thing if china attempted to expand an eastern allied military institution from the bottom of central America to Mexico and controlled a quarter of Mexico with military weapons installed.
Propoganda in the media is for the people. Leaders understand what it is. Liberals have trouble understanding why someone doesn't act like they do.
The nazi thing would never fly, given Russias backing of right wing extremists worldwide, including in the US.
Eastern Ukrainians decided they'd stage a CSA secession. Ukraine wanted them back. Unfortunate that people got killed, but that happens
There are Communist allied nations near America like Venezuela and Cuba. We've definitely fukked with them, but we haven't invaded them (notable exception being the Bay of Pigs)
The Americas don't have the same history as the USSR, so your comparison isn't particularly accurate.
NATO allied nations haven't done shyt to Russia aside from sactions in response to the annexation of Crimea and eastern Ukraine. The Russians have been fukking with the US for years with their cyberattacks, subversive propaganda campaigns to sow discord, and funding dissident groups and politicians. Should we go to war with Russia over that?
