If you have the time, I would highly recommend Carceral Capitalism by. Jackie Wang and Golden Gulag by. Ruth Wilson Gilmore to supplement this.

I used to work for Michelle Alexander in law school, and while she is absolutely brilliant, there is a wide body of research outside of her book that has gone substantially further.

They're also great reads/

Jumping in with a few reads:

Got the new translation of Capital Vol. 1 by Marx; and am also rereading Scenes of Subjection, in its new edition.

Grabbed The Deluge by. Adam Tooze a few months ago so I've been thumbing through.
