What's the story on this?

Let me preface this by saying there's posts going around amongst black wrestlers highlighting that if they speak up on #BLM, or the George Floyd protests, there's a chance that it'd affect their future bookings. I'm not SAYING AEW's name popped up, but point a went to point b (A Company that doesn't hire many black wrestlers in the first place) real quick.

Idk what started it, but AJ Gray & a couple of black fans/podcasters went in on twitter on AEW promising diversity and inclusion during it's inception, only to have all of 4-5 or so signed black people on the show that never get any significant screen time. I think Cody TRIED to pacify this by pointing out they have a POC as a champion (Shida) and a black man as one of their inaugural champions, but he made it worse because it came off as basically saying "I have a [insert token minority here] friend". Fans tried to point to Pineapple Pete as a person who is regularly on the show, who clapped back with this;

And he's right. Outside of a One-Off appearance, he hasn't been on as a wrestler since then I think. And neither count AEW Dark as being "On the show" since it's basically lower-carders getting wins over jobber talent (Who again, are usually black).

I'm on record as saying I fukk with AEW... but as a black fan, I can acknowledge they make a point. It comes off as especially egregious after you go back and watch the announcement of the company and see them promising diversity and inclusion as a sticking point of things they'll try to excel in.

It's about time people spoke up, every time I bring this topic up on the coli I get a bunch of c00ns and cacs being extra defensive quoting me trying to make excuses or rationalize it

I wanna like Tony Kahn. Him being a fan in a position of power aside, dude seems solid enough. But with what we've learned about his VP and others in high positions in AEW over the weekend and what'll probably end up coming out later, I hope he's sat down with the ones who share similar sentiments with Linda before he typed that response out. :francis:
