Is the show semi based on the 90's? The clothes and the level of their church's success seem anachronistic.

They're so 'sheltered' in their compound that the "adult" versions of the characters haven't progressed AT ALL (either in maturity or in 'culture') from the teenage versions we see in the flashback interludes.

They're 40 year olds stuck as 90's teenagers.
