I simply do not understand people being outside during a purge
I think that's what they're doing.
Tonight's episode begins the purge, then each episode is going to follow an hour of the purge

I liked this first ep a lot. Played like the first 15 minutes of every Purge movie except they are able to tell more people's stories instead of focusing on one group of people like the movie shave to do.
I am really curious who the sistah at the corporate job is paying to have purged. I wasn't expecting her to do that, I was assuming that Billy Baldwin was going to sign off his video message by telling everyone in that meeting that they were being let go...permanently. And then the security guards were gonna be hunting them all night.

In the episodes ahead, the event's formation will become a key part of the backstory for certain series regulars. According to Blum, however, the goal is to make sure the USA Network adaptation is as new user friendly as possible.
"We talked about whether we wanted to connect the TV series to the movie, or make it a new Purge world," he says. "There are a few easter eggs in this series, but the series is all new characters and in another world where the Purge exists, separate from the movies. Eventually, maybe one day, we'll connect them, but we really invested new characters for the television series."
