Dope video essay about how the general public and the directors of DC movies view DC heroes

The content creator main point is that comic books are a niche medium and that other mediums, such as film and television shapes how the general public sees superheroes.

The issue with DC is that it's movies only takes from 2 or 3 best comic books of a character while Marvel movies takes from the entire lore of a character.

So DC superheroes on screen are perceived as one or two dimensional while Marvel superheroes are full fledged living breathing characters.

Yea.... I been saying that for years.... for all the talk about Marvel villains.... DC has an equal if not worse problem with their heroes.

Like no one really loves them like people love the Marvel heros and its bad to have the 2nd or 3rd billed guy (the villain) outshine your franchised leading star.

When Superman the most popular and loveable superhero of all time aint bigger than what he is and a fukking tree, racc00n or etc is more popular.

Thats a fukking problem

DC characters (except Batman) don’t have a “edge” or have flaws.

Look at Spider-Man can stick to walls, has super strength, but it didn’t stop his beloved father figure from getting killed.

Thor- literally a god, but has real bad family issues.

X-Men- very powerful group of mutants, but the world literally hates them n are afraid of thrm

Daredevil can beat up 20 grown men without breaking a sweat, but he’s blind, his girlfriend is an undead ninja assassin and now his sworn enemy is mayor of NY

Nothing said in this video isn't anything that hasn't been said 4 billion times since Man of Steel came out, and 7 trillion times since Marvel comics formed and people started comparing the two companies. You could literally stitch together this dude's entire script from about a day's worth of browsing comic message boards.

Vid is too biased, he goes on about how many of the directors don't "get" DC heroes, yet plenty of Marvel directors have admitted to not reading many comic books to begin with. Super heroes come with general outlines, like Batman's parents being killed, or Spiderman being a broke teen/adult from Queens. Keep in mind that they completely ruined Hulk and the OG tv series....so Marvel isn't without fault.DC was reigning with completely inaccurate versions of both Batman and Supes....

Its not that directors don't "get" it, Singer loves Superman, and he made what is probably the worst Superman film to date. Its that sometimes, the story used, the pacing, the producers, etc, get in the way of a really good film. Man of Steel is solid, its multi layered, deep and above all, real. Clark goes through every emotion in the book. From being a lonely, lost and confused child, to an adult alien who has to come to terms with being a beacon of hope for a people that might potentially shun him.

BVS was a hero marketing film, and that part about it was horrid, but the very real Superman moments were nice. Unfortunately, the studios were pushing too hard on the whole Justice League angle....and we lost what could've been a great story told through the lens of Superman.
