as far as i can tell there are no pitfalls of linked in to me..its strictly business on there..work history; recommendations, no links to my twitter or fb...period
Breh you have NEVER heard of Linkedin before it being mentioned by us?Have heard of the site only through you guys but never even bothered going on there
So it's like Facebook for jobs?
Why is it a MUST join? That sounds silly to me
In my opinion @ the op no site is a must join best networking tool is real people and their are tons of other ways to find jobs online

i mean i get spam emails every once in a while from them but yup besides you guys and a gizmodo article i read once about how creepy the site can be sometimes , which turned me off to ever even wanting to mess with it
http://gizmodo.com/is-linkedin-the-creepiest-social-network-498946693
but the times i have heard dudes on here talk about on here they always mention how its a MUST have and key to gettin a job etc etc
I just dont see it , i had a pretty successful job search this past couple of months just using job search sites like indeed with no need to sign up for anything
If you're an alumni of a university or any other organization, they post up jobs specifically in the linkedin groups for one. Also, many jobs allow you to apply directly through linkedin. Further, linkedin shows you how many people applied to that job through there so you know the competition you're dealing with, etc. Plus you can just search companies on there and if they have a job opening then you can just click on their links through there. Also, linkedin will recommend you job openings based on your interests and experiences and which companies you follow. It is a must have, and it's reached a point where employers will think it's awkward if you don't have one. Also, it's a great way to keep up with what many people are doing professionally and you can specifically message them on there for job-related questions.
I feel it's a way for sex its or racist people who hire to filter who they hire... They can find out which of their candidates are minorities and which candidates they find attractive. Just an extra way for employers to judge their candidates in my opinion
hahaha i meant sexist, I mean anything is possible....
hahaha i meant sexist
i'm on pain meds from my tonsil surgery i'm really loopy and in pain so i'm not exactly myself but you get my drift. I feel linkedin is another avenue for those in charge of hiring to just hire the pretty girls or to not hire minorities when they check on candidates online.
Sometimes human nature sucks
I guess i'll find out i'm still a year away from graduation so i'm just intern material right now but i remember that story of the black woman who changed her identity to white with the same credentials and got so many job offers when she turned herself white on the resume online. I'd imagine being an attractive blonde girl with a great GPA will get you pretty damn far in the corporate world.oh
feel better breh
Yeah most likely, the pretty people of the world always win.

If you watch cnbc's American Greed you can see the type of personalities that run these industries and their all sociopaths.
racism/sexism are real problems without a doubt but they aren't all controlling. I personally know of plenty of minorities that have done very well for themselves and see them daily in the corporate world. It'll certainly get you knocked up by someone who is, no ism.
Yeah it's a bit scary but I guess you know what you're getting into and the mentality that you must hold in part.
