I have kept a very distinct line between real life and online personas and aliases for professional reasons. I dont even have a facebook because of its lack of anoninimity and the fear of someone i cross personally seeing me drink patron off some girls titty.

It has become growingly difficult to not have a linkedin acct considering the city i work in and the line of work im in. I have a serious fear of crossing that line....even to the point that id strongly consider leaving the coli forever if i made one (think of how flagrant i am here).

Your thoughts on graying that line safely?

You need that Linkedin account homie. Great networking tool. Only problem is you might have random users pm'n you left and right:dead:

I'm in the predicament as you. I'm paranoid giving out any info on here in case I might get caught slipping. Create a couple aliases:mjpls::lolbron:

If you have to log off for good, do it.

I do a good job. I keep my FB dead as f*ck, never bothered with a myspace or Twitter account.

No credit debt, felonies, or any other crap on my record either...

Not to mention I keep away from ratchet girls / individuals as another precaution. :manny:

I talk reckess on here, but good luck finding any ish on me :heh:

Still have to wait out that Linkedin account though, I knew a few ratchet people who I used to go church with whom are always are there fooling around :snoop:

LinkedIn is the one social media account you SHOULD have.

It's nothing like FB or any of those other sites. Strictly for professionals and career oriented individuals. None of that "post my pics from last night at the club" stupidity. That's why most of those ratchet birds don't have one or say its corny, its about your career not your social life.

I need to make a linked in for my engineering career. Problem is I already have my name out there as a photographer, I contribute to a bunch of magazines like vice and vogue and have articles written about me. Not sure how long I plan on staying in Engineering but I might need to make one soon, I guess I can add an initial to my name.

Why do you need to differentiate? Just create one with your name as an engineer. So you're an engineer with a photo hobby. What's the problem?

Someone recruiting you isn't going to care that you take photos. Unless you were shooting nude pics or something.

Having other interests/gigs is not a good look to HR. Doesn't really matter though, not planning on staying in the field too much longer.

From what I understand your LinkedIn wouldn't even mention photography so how would HR know.

Also, from what I understand your name is mad common so a google search aint about to give them any info either.

I'm just saying, I do a lot of hiring of engineers and I wouldn't give two fukks about something like that.

Linkedin is cool. But I don't think there is any substitute for networking.

I made a linkedin account because I wanted to switch careers. I never ended up using it for anything though. I never connected with any recruiters, HR, managers or anything like that, and I got great offers.

Linkedin is barely better than just submitting your resume online, and doing nothing else.

I have said a lot of crazy things as an online persona, and I worry about that a lot. When you have little faq snitches like VictorVonDoom, who can spend hours on this site searching post history, It becomes really scarey and not fun anymore.

I don't want people goggling me through photography knowing here I work/go to school.
