Landry and Thompson both have two more years (after this one) under their contracts, both at ~6.5M a piece. Why would you want them both playing 15 minutes per game on a lottery team - with good young front court players - if they're making that much?

Josh Smit have had to fukked up real badly to waive him outright like this. I cant even remember the last time something like this happened in the NBA. I wonder what was going on behind the scenes.

That trio of Drummond Monroe and Smith was never going to work. They just decided to give more minutes to their youth, Smith was no part of their future and they are hoping that Monroe stays with them.
I doubt Smith is as bad in the locker room as guys like Lance.
