Can someone help me decide how to scope out a psu for a project im doing.

I plan to cop 3 Radeon R9 270x and put them on one mother board. what kind of PSU would i need? Or better yet, how do i determin this?

What kind of CPU will you be paring with it. To be on the safe side I'd tally up 600W for the GPU's alone. Those cards can do anywhere between 150W-200W depending on the use.

power went out briefly lastnight, and somehow it killed my external hdd :shaq2:

What? Did you have it hooked up to a power strip? I would flip if that happened to me

yeah, it also has an AC adapter, so I don't think it was because of a 'power surge' or whatever. it was probably doing something when it lost power, and something got fuct up. I lost power and immediately got it back. but the hdd started making a loud scratching sound :merchant: (not the normal 'grinding' sound)

not a big deal though. I only lost a bunch of movies I never watch and some backups :manny:
