Like I said before the word comes from simpleton

Simp was used before inner city pimps, they just took it, put their spin on it and integrated into their lexicon.

Now most of you are using that definition based on cultural influence.

Back in my day a simp was a hopeless romantic.

The term you are describing has direct context to the culture and not the actual definition of the word.

Just like in rap fresh, dope and fly are used that have definitions distinct to that culture and not the actual word.

The only time I heard simp for years was on allhiphop.com.

Yup, use to post on the IC and it really was big over there (Hard on Hoes movement), never really heard it anywhere else until the IC turned trash.
