The concept for this movie is, at first glance, just HIGHLANDER without the campy theatricality but it does a lot move away from being a clone of an already established property.
The film does some impressive world building, cool action scenes and leaves things open for future installments that I am very eager to see put on film.
Props to director Gina Prince-Bythewood too because she showed a surprisingly deft hand at doing action (which has me disappointed that her BLACK CAT & SILVER SABLE movie got dropped especially since I was very
about it when it was announced) but also has me wanting to see what she can do with one of the multitudes of comic book superhero films that are in development.
My only real issue with the movie was how these immortals know that at some random point they will no longer be immortal yet they still kept going into action like the idea of avoiding getting shot and stabbed all the time was a foreign concept. Just because you can heal from anything doesn't mean you should be willing to let anything happen to you.
