The Spain side is outstanding but I think Del Bosque is messing things up.

Xavi-Busquets-Alonso all like to initiate play and be behind the ball. So you get 3 lads just sitting there. Then Iniesta/Silva love to come to the middle creating a very narrow side. Then they don't want to play strikers

The German side has some genuine class on the bench too. Another great side.


Reckon Italy might sneak it. They are one of the few sides with 3 genuine quality strikers.

The only reason why Alonso plays is to give their midfield some bite in tackles. Hes at his best when he has runners beside him like he had at Pool with Mascherano and Gerrard and with Sami K at Real for Spain they dont have that type of player barrin Martinez but hes more Biscuits or a CB cover.. Biscuits plays because hes tactically better than Alonso is and sits infront of the 2 CBs once the FBs push up, much like he does for Barca. Xavi dictates the tempo and flow of the game Alonsos more of a poor mans grizzlier Pirlo with Beckham/Gerrard hollywood balls thrown in.

They lost 1 game to USA and got shook and turned into possession based fakkits with a double pivot. When clearly after goin 35 games unbeaten the law of averages say ur due a defeat.

VdB has ruined this team, still good enough to win the tournament but not in the classy style of the 2008 version.

Where all the key players decided to turn up apart from Holland and their pens vs Italy. Zidanes best ever tournament, well overrated in 98 just coz he scored 2 headers.

The England vs Portugal game was incredible that year aswell.

Yeah Euro 2000 was definitely THE Zidane tournament. He was also better in the 2006 WC than France 98. He was certainly a man before Big games.

The England vs Portugal game was incredible that year aswell.

Imo the dutch turned up. they battered yugoslavia 6-1 in the QF (kluviert and overmars beasting) then lost to italy on pens. Even england for me had their best side of this era imo (macmamaman, scholes, ince, beckham; shearer, owen). For 20 minutes against portugal they looked good as fook then they just got smothered by a team who passed the ball in a way when tika-taka was just a bunch of words. Rui Costa then was better than any number 10 in the world today and he wasnt even their highest rated player.

Anybody just needs to look at the goalscorers from the QF on to see all the big players turned up and then the best team one with the final kick of the tournament, which was thumped into the back of the net. Perfection.

Kluivert still a wasted talent IMO was good should of been better tho, had the lot.

Rui Costa changed that game in 2004 vs England as well whrn he came on.

Shame Keegan was flawed and we ended up with the hybird of Burns & Smithers

Its funny in the build up games towards the end of the year before Goetze got injured, Low was playin both Ozil and Goetze together with only 1 holder in a 4141. But i guess the defeat vs France put paid to bein that adventurous. I think they may of ended up picked because Beastian was injured for the 1st half of the season

Reus is more of a wide replacement while Goetze is Ozils understudy.
