Why is it a 1500 instead of an even 1600? Swear in HS this event was the mile (1600)
The 1500m exists because tracks used to be 500m the 1500m was exactly 3 laps. The 1600m exists because when the United States tried to convert to metric in the 80’s they changed most tracks to 400m rather that 440 yards (1/4 mile, about 402m)
