There really ain’t no money in track. You can’t only be good you gotta somehow market yourself too smh

You'll find this is problem in all solo/individual sports. From tennis and golf to cue sports. Where unless you're an elite talented youngsters where you can get sponsorship from early. Majority of the athletes across all these non team sports only really get paid via prize money (see why golfers are joining the Saudi golf league.) The elite level athletes who are winners I.e majors/big events or medalists have it easier to secure big sponsorship because the sponsor is either paying for the potential or they want to be assiocated with a known winner. As an solo individual athlete you're expected to pay your own way travel expenses medical insurance etc etc. It's only like the Bolt's of the world who can command the event and sponsors to pay for all that sort of thing. Iirc Bolt was getting 300k+ to turn up and race in an event. I.e Diamond league. That's why preforming well in an Olympics for most of the competitors is more important than actually winning a gold. With worldwide TV exposure it can help set up their career for the next 1-4 years/Olympic cycle without worry.

With that said it's always about what you run in the final. Too many people like an Asafa Powell have run plenty of quick times all the way up to a championships and then gone missing when it really counts. Also with the World Champs earlier this year than normal the break between the trials and champs are shorter. So it trying not to peak too early especially with the US trials which is the hardest to qualify from in the sprinting events.

Asafa choked in every major individual final he ran, because he started the sport late and never had the poise in the big moments. Thank God for Bolt, a guy whose talent was known and harnessed since he was 15.

There is money in track, you just gotta be good for a while, get some diamond league checks and sponsors. If you are good, usually someone will take notice and hook you up with training, a diet and after comes the sponsors etc.

Obviously it's not NBA/boxing/tennis money but most athletes that you've heard about for years are good financially.

There’s money in it but it ain’t that much. If you gotta pretty much be THE best in your sport to see decent money then that ain’t good
