If you won gold in last Olympics that should have an automatic spot in the next team or some second chance option at least

4 years is a long time, but i do agree you should be able to defend your title or at least have a waiver . They could easily introduce like say a waiver that you have to meet the olympic qualifying time to defend your title at least.
