STAMFORD, Conn. – July 11, 2022 –
The World Track & Field Championships Oregon22 begin this Friday, July 15, from the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field and will be presented across numerous networks and platforms of NBCUniversal. It will be the first time the outdoor World Championships will be held in the U.S. and NBC Sports will utilize NBC, Peacock, USA Network, CNBC, and NBC Sports digital platforms to provide comprehensive coverage.

In total, NBC Sports will present 43 hours of television programming, including four nights of live primetime weekend coverage (July 16-17, July 23-24) on the NBC broadcast network, plus extensive streaming coverage throughout the 10-day championship meet, which concludes on Sunday, July 24.

The world’s biggest track & field athletes will participate in the meet, which is expected to feature 37 defending world champions and 37 U.S. Olympic medalists. Headlining the American contingent in Eugene is the most decorated track & field athlete in World Championships history Allyson Felix, Tokyo Olympic 400m hurdles gold medalist and current world record holder Sydney McLaughlin, defending 200m world champion and Tokyo Olympic 200m bronze medalist Noah Lyles, Tokyo Olympic 100m silver medalist Fred Kerley, and 200m under-20 world record holder Erriyon Knighton, among a host of other Olympians.

NBC BROADCAST NETWORK

NBC Sports will present a record seven primetime hours of World Championships coverage during four weekend nights on NBC, with live coverage totaling 12.5 hours including afternoon broadcasts.

On Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17, the fastest runners on the planet will face off in the men’s (July 16) and women’s (July 17) 100m final live on NBC, which is expected to feature Americans Fred Kerley, Trayvon Bromell, and defending 100m world champion Christian Coleman for the men as well as Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica on the women’s side.

NBC will also air the men’s shot put final live on Sunday, July 17. Americans Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs have won the past two Olympic gold and silver medals, respectively.

During the second weekend of competition, multiple relays including the men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m, will be presented live on NBC. At the previous World Championships in 2019, Noah Lyles anchored the U.S. to a world title in the 4x100m. On Sunday, July 24, the women’s 800m final will be presented live on NBC. The American trio of Tokyo Olympic champion Athing Mu, Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Raevyn Rogers, and 2019 bronze medalist Ajee Wilson are all threats to medal.

Pretty much, most olympic sports except basketball no one in america cares about outside of the two week olympics.
